About

Contemporary Art Stavanger consists of an online art journal as well as a physical residency program for critics, writers and researchers. Through our work, we aim to contribute meaningful conversation relevant to the Stavanger region’s art scene, while at the same time connecting the content to a larger national and international discourse – we therefore publish in both Norwegian and English. In addition to reviews, essays, and interviews, we explore the expansive possibilities of CAS’ online platform and investigate different ways of working with writers, residencies, and the format of art writing and criticism. We at CAS are dedicated to presenting a wide range of perspectives, voices, and subject matter. Read more

Studio K: Exhibition «Follow the path into nature», Marit Silsand

September 25, 2020 @18:00 - September 28, 2020 @20:00 CEST Exhibition

About

Studio K: Exhibition «Follow the path into nature», Marit Silsand
25.-28.09.20

During her project period at Studio K, Marit Silsand will work with interior materials as well as those from nature in an attempt to combine these two environments. The results will be presented through photographs and sculptural installations. In dialogue with the photographs, Silsand will work with sculptural works, emphasizing the use of natural materials from Kverneland.

Silsand is presenting photographic works from the series «Follow the Line», a project where she is exploring the physical and material aspects of textile in photography. Inspired by Rayographs (a technique where one places objects on top of a light-sensitive material in the darkroom, expose the paper and develops it), she experiments with the digital imaging of textiles with photo scanners to achieve the desired effect.

On September 26. and 27. the exhibition space will be further developed when Silsand is inviting spacial designer Line Sanne to work alongside her in the project space while opening it up for the public. Silsand and Sanne has collaborated on a variety of projects since 2011.

Marit Silsand (b.1980, Tjøme), based in Oslo, is a visual artist who studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, San Francisco Art Institute and Fatamorgana Fotokunstskole in Copenhagen. Silsand works with analog and digital photographic art, where the topics often revolve around questions of place identity, relationships and materiality. Her work has been exhibited internationally and she is currently participating in the touring show Vestlandsutstillingen 2020, curated av Elise By Olsen. Silsand is a member of Billedkunstnere Oslo og Akershus (BOA), Norske Billedkunstnere (NBK) and Bjørka, a professional production site and studio collective for camera based artists in Grønland, Oslo.
