About

Contemporary Art Stavanger consists of an online art journal as well as a physical residency program for critics, writers and researchers. Through our work, we aim to contribute meaningful conversation relevant to the Stavanger region’s art scene, while at the same time connecting the content to a larger national and international discourse – we therefore publish in both Norwegian and English. In addition to reviews, essays, and interviews, we explore the expansive possibilities of CAS’ online platform and investigate different ways of working with writers, residencies, and the format of art writing and criticism. We at CAS are dedicated to presenting a wide range of perspectives, voices, and subject matter. Read more

Samuel Brzeski ‘into wanderer lonely’

October 22, 2021 @18:00 - October 24, 2021 @16:00 CEST Exhibition

About

The exhibition ‘into wanderer lonely’ proposes new iterations of what a contemporary landscape poem could be, rewritten in collaboration with the ghost in the machine. A series of classic romantic landscape poems by William Wordsworth, Robert Southey and Samuel Taylor Coleridge have been reconfigured using a machine-assisted process utilising the geolocation mapping application ‘what3words’. Three works in video will be presented, alongside a new publication launched as part of the exhibition.

Samuel Brzeski (UK/NO) works between the fields of writing and art. His predominantly text-based practice concerns the place and presence of the emotive body within the postdigital swirl of language. This involves exploring the inherent malleability of language to create and/or question meaning, narrative and experience. Working primarily with acts of reading and vocal semantics, the works investigate how the emotional impacts of digital culture are manifested through literature, poetics, text and voice. Recent and ongoing projects include Lydgalleriet (NO), KRAFT (NO), Slakt (NO), Chao Art Centre (CN), Bergen Assembly (NO), Black Box Theatre (NO) and bb15 (AT).
Supported by Bergen Centre for Electronic Art, Norsk Kulturråd and Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond.
