About

Contemporary Art Stavanger consists of an online art journal as well as a physical residency program for critics, writers and researchers. Through our work, we aim to contribute meaningful conversation relevant to the Stavanger region’s art scene, while at the same time connecting the content to a larger national and international discourse – we therefore publish in both Norwegian and English. In addition to reviews, essays, and interviews, we explore the expansive possibilities of CAS’ online platform and investigate different ways of working with writers, residencies, and the format of art writing and criticism. We at CAS are dedicated to presenting a wide range of perspectives, voices, and subject matter. Read more

Samlingen vokser.

Duration of the exhibition: 17.–20.11.2016
Opening: Thursday, 17.11.2016, 19.00

The collection expands. You don’t really remember how it started. It was Tuesday and you were reading a Wikipedia article about space, moving on to theories about the colour pink, gender identity, rocks, alchemy, dancehall, YouTube videos about twerking, has Jay-Z really been cheating on Beyoncé, back to the Wikipedia article about space, which psychological disorder does DSM-IV claim you’re having, Wikipedia article about Wikipedia… Having accidentally exited Safari you need to reopen the browser. Examining the Internet history you think: What was it I was looking for?

Hedda Roterud Amundsen displays in the exhibition Netflix & Chill several works which in one way or another are part of a collection. It is not easy to know where popular culture ends and Amundsen’s universe begins, perhaps because they are situated in overlapping landscapes; online and offline; physical and psychological; geographical and digital; private and public. The wide range of cultural references that constantly surround us are in the exhibition interpreted through personal narratives.

The book Romantic Coordinates and Other Mental Evidence (2016) serves as a literary backdrop for the cross-genre works, premiering at Studio17. In her book Amundsen discusses how new technology and social media affects both language and interpersonal relationships. The texts are accompanied by a musical component during a performance with artist Cono Krogh (b.1994), and receive photographic illustrations in the form of screenshots. Further, short videos interpret the book’s literary devices and so continues the cycle; collaborations and translations; layer upon layer.

Hedda Roterud Amundsen (b.1989) lives and works in Oslo. She holds a Bachelor from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore and a Master from Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). This is her first solo show.

The exhibition is dedicated to everyone who identifies with being a celebrity in their own life.

Studio17 and the exhibition is supported by Arts Council Norway.
