Institusjonen opererer med en bred forståelse av koreografibegrepet, og presenterer ofte arbeider i krysningsfeltet mellom samtidsdans, scenekunst og billedkunst.
Årlig har RAS flere danserkunstnere i residensopphold på sine scener. Det kan søkes om residensopphold i alle fasene av et prosjekt, og koreografer kan søke fortløpende. Det legges ofte til rette for at kunstnerne kan åpne opp sine prosesser i form av arbeidsvisninger eller publikumssamtaler. Som en del av programmet legges det også opp til kunstnermøter og seminarer.
RAS har tilholdssted i Sandnes kunst- og kulturhus og benytter både den store og lille salen i kulturhuset, samt sal og gallerirom på KinoKino. RAS samarbeider også med andre lokale aktører, blant annet Stavanger konserthus, Tou, Kapittelfestivalen og Stavanger kunstmuseum for ulike visnings-, formidlings- og produksjonssamarbeid.
RAS er en del av det nasjonale turnénettverket Dansenett Norge. Målet for nettverket er å desentralisere presentasjon av dansekunst og vise forestillinger av høy kvalitet til publikum i hele landet.

The institution operates with a broad understanding of the concept of choreography, and often presents cross-disciplinary works that combine contemporary dance, performance art and visual art.
Every year, RAS hosts several artists in their residency program. It is possible to apply for a residency in all phases of a project, and there is no set application deadline. As part of their programming, RAS often facilitates open rehearsals and public talks as well as meetings and seminars.
RAS’ administration is housed in Sandnes Art and Culture House and uses both the large and small stages for the program, as well as the stage and gallery space at KinoKino. RAS also collaborates with other local institutions such as Stavanger Concert Hall, Tou, Kapittel festival and Stavanger Art Museum for various events, public programming and productions.
RAS is part of the national dance tour network Dansenett Norge. The network’s goal is to decentralize the presentation of dance arts and show high quality performances for audiences in all of Norway.
